Gold-Backed TER Token Launched by Bhutan on Solana Blockchain

Bhutan has introduced the TER token, a digital asset fully backed by physical gold, marking a strategic move toward a value-based digital economy.

The TER token is issued with sovereign backing through Gelephu Mindfulness City, combining traditional gold value with advanced blockchain technology.

The TER token reflects Bhutan’s approach to linking heritage with innovation, as its name derives from a word meaning “treasure,” symbolizing the preservation of real assets while embracing digital transformation.

Gelephu Mindfulness City serves as the official issuer, focusing on responsible technology.

Distribution and institutional custody are handled by DK Bank, Bhutan’s first digital bank, under regulatory oversight.

The TER token is issued on the Solana blockchain, chosen for its speed, low transaction costs, and reduced environmental impact, with a specialized partner providing gold tokenization expertise.

In its initial phase, users can acquire the token directly through DK Bank with institutional-grade custody, offering a secure and familiar process similar to purchasing physical gold from major financial institutions.

The initiative aims to set a benchmark for integrating sovereign values with sustainable digital innovation.
